Sencore, Inc. is a U.S. company, started in 1951 by Herb Bowden. As an Admiral Television application engineer working with service technicians, he saw a need for test instruments that would provide a straight-forward approach to servicing, and reduce the amount of time spent troubleshooting electronic circuits. The first instrument was designed in his Chicago garage in the evenings, and he began demonstrating it to local technicians. As Herb expanded his product offering and the business grew, he looked for a new location for his business. In 1970, he packed up the company and headed west to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Herb retired and sold Sencore to Al and Doug Bowden in 1987. As technology advanced from the broadcast studio to living room TV receivers, Sencore prepared for new challenges and formed global alliances for future growth. While providing electronic servicers with quality, time-saving test instruments, Sencore also developed solutions for global cable and digital video technology.
In January 2009, The Riverside Company, the largest global private equity firm focused on the smaller end of the middle market and one of the industry's most experienced leveraged buyout investors, acquired Sencore. John Suranyi, the former President of Sales & Service at DirecTV, CEO of Cheetah Advanced Technologies, Inc. and National Vice President, Dish Network Service Corporation, was named the new CEO of Sencore.
Sencore remains vertically integrated with product design, manufacturing, sales and servicing at the Sioux Falls location, and still provides the best customer sales and support in the industry. It has grown from a garage business to a company with multi-million dollar domestic and international sales. Sencore's focus has remained the same throughout the years, providing a straight-forward solution to aid technicians and engineers in their daily jobs. Sencore provides instruments for two distinctive areas:
Custom Audio/Video Products and Electronic Service Division - This division offers a variety of products that can be used for general troubleshooting and maintenance applications, home theater/home automation installation and calibration, commercial or contractor audio/video installation and calibration, gaming casino monitor and power supply troubleshooting, and medical imaging equipment.
